René Viner
My paintings are a personal expression of my creative energy which is fuelled by the experience of growing up in South Africa, the adventure of making a new life in the UK and a fascination with natural form.
Earlier pieces hint at turbulence, unease and even violence, while more recent works reflect an inner peace. My love of organic form and the balance of nature are the inspiration for my current work.
I work in oil and acrylic which is often mixed with other materials including sand, stone and reflective objects such as glass and mirror. The newspaper collages reflect our obsession with current news, so soon forgotten. Those whose lives are changed forever continue to live the reality while we move on… these paintings are my tribute to those who suffer.
Having studied fine art in Durban and Cape Town, South Africa, I then went on to carve a successful career in advertising design. In 1994, I married a travelling Englishman, immigrated to the UK and settled in London.
After clawing my way up the advertising corporate ladder, I abandoned London and my role as Creative Services Director and moved to Peterborough for a quieter life and to embrace my role as mother. I formed my own business which provides flexibility and the opportunity to express all my creative skills.
“Murals and More…” was launched in 2003 and is going from strength to strength. I have completed several projects for private clients and also for schools and small businesses. Not only does this include spectacular mural art for children, but also interior design projects for clients locally and as wide spread as London, Cambridge, Manchester and Sheffield.
This is a small representation of the range of styles in which I work. If you wish to commission a specific project, please feel free to chat with me about it.
I hope you enjoy the display.
